Pumpkin is often consumed as a vegetable during fasting days, religious ceremonies and special occasions like Vrat, Puja and Katha. Some people enjoy it in savory dishes while others prefer its sweet and tangy variations. Today, I am sharing a delicious and easy-to-make dessert – Kaddu Ka Halwa! You may have eaten pumpkin as a vegetable, but this sweet version will surely win your heart. It is simple to prepare and melts in your mouth with every bite. Even kids who usually don’t like pumpkin will love this halwa. For a vibrant look, you can add a pinch of orange or saffron food color—making it resemble Gajar Ka Halwa. The taste is so rich and delicious that no one will even notice the difference!
Kaddu ka Halwa Recipe

Ingredients
Sugar: 150 grams (adjust as per taste)
Milk: 150 ml
Pistachios: 10-12 (finely chopped)
Almonds: 10-12 (finely chopped)
Raisins: 15-16
Chironji (Charoli): 12-14
Desiccated coconut: 2 tsp
Ghee: 1-2 tbsp
Instructions
- Wash the pumpkin (kaddu) thoroughly and peel it.
- Grate the pumpkin finely using a grater.
- Heat a heavy-bottomed pan or kadhahi on medium heat and add ghee.
- Add the grated pumpkin and sauté for 3-4 minutes until it softens slightly.
- Pour milk into the pan and stir well.
- Cook on low to medium flame, stirring occasionally until the milk is completely absorbed and the mixture thickens.
- Once the pumpkin is well-cooked and soft add sugar (adjust to taste).
- Stir continuously until the sugar dissolves and the halwa thickens again.
- Mix in desiccated coconut, chopped almonds, pistachios, raisins and chironji.
- Stir well and cook for another 1-2 minutes to blend the flavors.
Step 6: Garnish & Serve
- Turn off the flame and transfer the halwa to a serving bowl.
- Garnish with chopped dry fruits and a sprinkle of coconut.
- Serve warm or chilled as per preference.
